My Reflections [Leadership Series: Part I]

Here, in this 'My Reflection Leadership Series', I'll be talking about
my leadership ideas and personal experiences which transformed both my 'self' and my life.
My Reflections on LEADERSHIP

As far as my experiences with the leaders I encountered are concerned, I must admit that a few of them have really been instrumental for what I am as a learner and as a leader myself today. Here, in this 'My Reflection Leadership Series', I'll be talking about my leadership ideas and personal experiences which transformed both my 'self' and my life.

“He (Dhoni) feels little need to show his authority overtly and  accepts his own leadership fully. He stays calm and very alert. Situational awareness has been his greatest strength. He reads the situation well. He actually knows the likes and dislikes of every individual. In fact, Dhoni is the best captain I’ve played for.

                            -Sachin Tendulkar

It's about making of a Great Organization called Team INDIA with Dhoni’s
contribution along with our win in World Cup T20, 2007 & World Cup DI, 2011.
        Whenever I think of ‘Leadership’, I always remember those unforgettable moments when I got lucky enough to witness India’s win in the Finals of 2011 World Cup (and I was so touched and moved to see the real-leadership-live-in-action that I still feel tempted to quote those great moments while talking about leadership). No doubt, it was a great opportunity to watch, observe and study for a few essential elements of LEADERSHIP. It was a wonderful treat to witness Real-Leader-in-Action (None other than M. S. Dhoni, Captain of Indian Cricket Team).

        Watch out for the following ‘World Cup Winning Leadership Equation’,

                    Optimistic, Adaptable & Self-assured
                 + Highly Driven for Advancement
                 + Ability to Recover Quickly from Setbacks and Motivate Others
                 + Understanding of the High Risks
                 + Deployed Tactics even against of Expert Opinions
                 + Calm, Competitive and Charismatic Approach
                 + Smart Field Placing
                 + Strategic Bowling Changes
                 + Terrific Man-Management Skills
                 + Bringing Out the Best in Each Player
                 + Being Demanding and Moulding the Bowling Attack
                 + Ruthless Desire to Succeed
                 + Harnessing the Available Talent
                 + Openness to Ideas
                 + Great Courage, Confidence & being Exemplary
                 + Brave Move to Come Up the Order
                 + Leading from the Front
                 + Not Shying Away from Accepting the Responsibility
                 + Never passing on the Blame
                 + Sheer Virtue of being there in the Middle till the End

Jack Welch made sweeping changes
throughout the company as chairman of G.E.
               When we talk about research on 'leadership styles'The Michigan researchers came up with two dimensions of leadership behavior- task oriented/ and people oriented. In first style, there is close supervision over the task or technical aspect of the job, more emphasis on getting the job done than peole growth. While in second style, there is emphasis on friendly, trusting and respectful personal relationships, need of employees for even decision making, accepted individual differences, motivated rather than controlled subordinates. Research says that people oriented leaders get higher group productivity and higher job satisfaction. Ohio State studies suggest that both considerations Initiating Structure (task oriented) as well as Consideration (people oriented) are useful for effective leadership (like the way Jack Welch made sweeping changes throughout the company as chairman of G.E.).

An effective leadership is not only about the task, It's also about the people involved.

If we go by the Leadership Grid (or Managerial Grid), one could better understand a leader’s relative concern for people and task both. Style (1,1) is Impoverished Management-low concern for task, low concern for people. Style (1,9) is Country Club Management-high concern for people but low concern for task. Style (9,1) is Authoritarian Management-high concern for task but low concern for people. And style is called Middle-of-the-road Management- An average amount of concern for both the task and people. While Style (9,9) is named as Team Management- a high concern for both task and people satisfaction (like in M. S. Dhoni’s case).

          I believe that an effective leadership is not only about the task, It's also about the people involved. What makes one a great and inspiring leader is the vision as well as one's ability to connect and reach out to the followers. In my upcoming blog posts, I will be emphasizing the same leadership mantra in the light of my personal and professional experiences. To sum up, I would like to quote Gary Kirsten,

“For me MS (Dhoni) is one of the greatest leaders of this country. He’s the leader by example. He always gives 100% and expects his troops to be ready for battle.”

YOU ARE HIRED!

Know the Secrets of Behavioural Science and Crack that P.I. and Get Hired!
YOU ARE HIRED!

Secret Disclosed! Mystery Revealed! Get Ready for Your Upcoming P.I. (Personal Interview). Now You Can Beat Your Fears! No More Nervousness!...Yes, You Can Make It!...Know the Secrets of Behavioural Science and Crack that P.I. and Get Hired!

I still remember myself interviewing candidates who appeared nervous in spite of having a brilliant profile on paper. Knowingly or unknowingly it reduced their chances to make it to the final list. It never impresses me if somebody presents himself/ herself in a ‘rockstar image’ be it their weird hairdos or their ‘hyperbolic’ resumes. And in contrast, their palms sweat, throats get dry, their body starts shivering, knees get shaking and they give a sense of butterflies in their stomachs. And that’s how one usually feels before an interview. Study says that 6 out of 10 interviewees have the same experience. These candidates feel extremely tense. As a matter of fact, this is all natural. And it’s quite normal too. But here the aftereffects are a bit costly if this is the same scenario on that important day where your interview fears dominate your performance and finally at the end of the day you fail to beg your dream job. Isn’t it?!!

While Behavioural Science says that whenever you encounter ‘an unknown situation or an unfamiliar circumstance’, (It could be your first ‘Date’, your very first formal presentation, the day of announcement of your results or even facing strangers) your nervous system shows up an auto-response and by default your mind sends signals to your various body parts and you feel the difference in form of dramatic changes like less amount of oxygen in your lungs, pace of your breath, pulse rate, increased number of heart beats (and sometimes even low blood pressure in some extreme cases). In fact, through all these minor changes, your brain tells your body to calm down a bit and let it take it’s own due course of time to rearrange your system. Now, let’s talk about a few simple tricks so that your body and brain don’t cheat on you on that very exclusive day. Yes, it’s your turn to cheat on your brain and body both.
Yes, it’s your turn to cheat on your brain and body both.
Well, here lies the secret, ‘unknown situation or an unfamiliar circumstance’. Yes, this is the clue!...A word is enough to a wise. And I don’t doubt on your wisdom either. Have you ever felt nervous in front of your family or friends given the normal conditions? (That’s another part of the story when you feel more or less the same symptoms when your condition is not as normal as telling lies, hiding facts or something like that.) I believe your answer is a big YES. You say that ‘yes’ to me because facing our family or friends is neither an unknown situation nor an unfamiliar circumstance. Well, please do not doubt my wisdom when you jump to the conclusion and say to yourself loud. “YES, I GOT IT!” Don’t assume this the complete picture. We are just half way. OK let’s talk about the rest of the mystery. All you have to do is to convert your interview experience as something ‘KNOWN SITUATION and FAMILIAR CIRCUMSTANCE’. How can you do that? That’s the question! And an answer to this question is what you need to do to get rid of all your fears. For your convenience, I have broken it into 3 simple steps. Just do it!

1. Research, 2. Rehearse 3. Release

1. RESEARCH:

Well, here I make it absolutely clear that you don’t need to be an FBI agent as shown in those Hollywood movies. And yes, this is also not about any PHD stuff. Here, research simply means to do a little homework on the organization where you are supposed to face that fearsome predator called HR. (One day I just overheard a candidate saying that he fears Recruiters the most. Personally speaking, sometimes HRs also doubt their features when a normal person comes, interview starts and the same normal person starts behaving abnormally, he fumbles, stutters and gives an impression to the selector in front as if he/ she has got some horns or blood sucking teeth or what). Anyway perhaps now we know that this is not the fear of facing the recruiter/ selector/ HR /employer, it’s just about facing the ‘unknown situation or an unfamiliar circumstance’. Thanks to this theory otherwise it was quite difficult to assure myself of not looking that horrible. Enough Talk, let’s get back to the business. Again I say, do get familiar with the organization (if possible your role and the industry as well).

This is not the fear of facing the recruiter. it’s just about
facing the ‘unknown situation or an unfamiliar circumstance’
.
Come on, don’t give me this weird expression. It’s quite easy. You are the proud generation of Facebook and Google. So you got the answer! Yes, you can google it, you can even go for the official company website, annual reports, market analysis in terms of the company’s performance, press release and what not. And if you are a die-hard Facebook fan, then the good news is that the companies have now started a new trend of marketing through social networking sites where they do maintain official ‘pages’. (Believe me, the more the home work, lesser the fear; and this extra hard work also pays for the questions like “What do you know about our company?” “Why do you want to join us?” and such.) Mind you, an applicant who has done his or her research well, feels more confident and gives out the positive vibe to the interviewers that s/he is serious about the job. S/he is interested in the company. S/he is ready to go for the extra mile. And this automatically also reduces the candidate’s anxiety. Because the company / organization/ employer is no more new to you nor to your brain. You got it?!!

2. REHEARSE:
When ‘Actor of the Century’ Mr. Amitabh Bachchan says, “I’m still learning. And I always try to give my best shot.” It’s just hard to believe while on screen he seems so flawless. And when ‘God of Cricket’ Mr. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar still does ‘net practice’ for hours and hours there must be no wonder how he maintains the maximum number of world records in the field of cricket. Everybody whosoever is at the peak of his/her performance graph, is practicing, rehearsing and making sure that they don’t miss out on anything. They want perfection. Perfection at its best! Then how could we expect our ‘best shot’ just randomly on spot at one go specially in an interview. Doesn’t it hit you somewhere deep inside?!! Don’t you get the feeling you are taking on the world with no weapons? Yes, we are talking in terms of making your interview experience as something ‘KNOWN SITUATION and FAMILIAR CIRCUMSTANCE’. You can do it by doing rehearsals. Why don’t you take it as a role play where not only your dialogues matter but your dialogue delivery with appropriate expressions also matters a lot. Remember, a candidate should be careful about his way of speaking, posture, attitude and the way he carries himself. And if questions are concerned…Yes, you know them (if not all, at least most of them). There are always some stock questions applicants face during interviews. Those same FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions: Tell us something about yourself; where do you see yourself five years down the line; what are your strengths and weaknesses and such.) and of course questions based on your resume.
Whosoever is at the peak of his performance graph, is practicing,
rehearsing and making sure they don’t miss out on anything.
First, you make answers (the script) which are original, genuine and reflect ‘YOU’ as the best choice available to the HR. Here the clue to make your script stronger and more appealing is that during the short duration of an interview you also offer the interviewers a peek into your emotional intelligence and softer skills, like leadership and teamwork, which could be a differentiator. As the IQ portion (your qualification, your co-curricular activities, and your area of expertise) is already on the CV anyway. Now rehearse the same answers. It pays to rehearse the answers either in front of someone. (personally I will not favour 'mirror-practice' where your looks take the center stage.)  Make your brain realize that this is not anything new. Your interview next day is just a normal, as usual, familiar interaction. Not a big deal! You can rehearse your answers as many times as possible. Because here at this point of time, you have the liberty to make any mistake and later on, correct it. For bonus points, you can also do the final round of rehearsals in your ‘interview attire’. It could sound a bit crazy. But this will really boost your confidence. Wear comfortable clothes and don’t be overly fussy with your attire. There are several instances when the clothes become a distraction, and this gets in the way of a better quality of interaction. Mind it!

RELEASE:
You did research on the company. You even rehearsed your ‘own’ best answers. Now it’s time to stay stress free. Don’t treat your interview next day as a war in a battle field. Believe me it’s not a do-or-die situation. Neither is it a “counter strike”. Don’t you think when you want something too much too badly, you get more nervous. Take it easy! It’s just an opportunity to meet and interact with new people. There is really no need to be scared or feel desperate. Your life will not end then and there if somehow you don’t make it. The question is how do you unwind? If you wish to indulge in your hobby be it listening to music or watching a movie, so be it. This will dramatically reduce stress. Sometimes, after preparing your ‘sound-good-answers’, when you just chill out for a while, you subconsciously get clues to make your answers even better than the best (Personally Experienced).

Visioning your success is more of a science and less of craziness.
If you ask me what would I do if I were in your place? My answer is very simple. I will vision myself performing my best in front of the interview panel and offering my best answers to each one of them. I could even see smiles on their faces while listening to my answers. I could make out with their body language that the decision would surely be in my favour. And they look quite positive (and lucky too) to have me on board. And what more could you expect from me. OK. Hold your breath! I could even see the offer letter in my hands stating “TO WHOMSOEVER IT MAY CONCERN: We are Pleased to offer you the job!” You could say I’m living in a fool’s paradise. But Psychologists say that visioning your success is more of a science and less of craziness. And this trick has been used over and over again by great achievers in the history of mankind be it Arnold Schwarzenegger or Henry Ford.

My last advice?!! I would paraphrase Amy Cuddy, a researcher from Harvard.

“Don’t Fake It Till You Make It. Fake It till You Become It.”

ABCD Part - 2 [Any Body Can succeeD ]

Let’s see how one can relate this ‘ABCD philosophy’ to achieve greatness in one’s life.
ABCD - II
  [Any Body Can succeeD]
Get rid of excuses and grab the motivation to succeed. Live your dream, not just in the future, but always! Here's your ABCD Philosophy of success. Check It Out !

*A few days back, I chanced upon this impressive movie ‘ABCD’ (Any Body Can Dance). This movie really hit me somewhere deep inside. In particular, this movie focuses on a gang of aimless youngsters who are somehow blind to their own caliber and are unknown to their ultimate destination. And finally they got guided by a MasterMind (read: Master Dance Trainer in the movie, a role amazingly played by Parbhu Deva) and he made them realize their true potential and of course they were the winners of the grand title of a mega event because of their superlative performance. If you relate the same plot to our ‘as-usual’ life, you will get to see for yourself a lot much similarity. Let’s see how one can relate this ‘ABCD philosophy’ to achieve greatness in one’s life,

A = Attitude Matters

B = Be Yourself

[continued from the previous post]

C= Can-Do
My handset dictionary says, ‘If you say that someone has a can-do attitude, you approve of them because they are confident and willing to deal with problems or new tasks, rather than complaining or giving up.’ Such Can-doers always exhibit a dogged resolve and one can see them roughing it out most earnestly. They do hell of a lot of hard work and really put their whole heart and soul into anything they undertake. They always seem geared up to win the title. And whenever they see the barriers, they find ways to cut through them. They just don’t let the tough stuff drag them down. Sometimes we don’t get due results, everything in life comes crashing down and things go downhill. In such dark moments, most of us feel let down and low. No doubt, facing failure is a tough ask and is also a real test of character. But these Can-doers never give up. They remain keen ever than before to bounce back. They, in fact, keep the momentum going through thick and thin. Needless to say, such ‘Warriors of Light’ reap rich rewards and go on to win the battle of life.
Such ‘Warriors of Light’ reap rich rewards and go on to win the battle of life.

With a difficult childhood, ordinary education and a failed career, Charlie Chaplin’s is a Remarkable Rags to Riches Story. He was one of those Can-doers who really made his mark. In his own words, "I was hardly aware of a crisis because we lived in a continual crisis; and, being a boy, I dismissed our troubles with gracious forgetfulness. We must laugh in the face of our helplessness against all the forces of nature and never lose our heart. I (was) newsvendor, printer, toymaker, doctor's boy, etc., but during these occupational digressions, I never lost sight of my ultimate aim to become an actor. So, between jobs I would polish my shoes, brush my clothes, put on a clean collar and make periodic calls at a theatrical agency. I was determined to make my life work...I suppose, It's an attitude; Life can be wonderful if you're not afraid of it. Remember, you'll never find a rainbow if you're always looking down."

D = Dare to Win
As shown in the movie, the same gang of youngsters (who were once aimless and blind to their own talents) put their fantastic efforts in the finals. Although the competitors caused them some real concerns, their tremendous performance paid off. This proves that you can achieve success regardless of all the complexity and contradiction. Put your best foot forward in attaining the desired goals. And once you make up your mind there should be no looking back. Everybody is faced with some choice at one point of time. And we find ourselves at the crossroads. The biggest dilemma facing us is what to do with 'easy way out' versus 'winning it out'. Surrendering to the difficulties of life or deciding to march ahead is like a two way street. No doubt we all expect a conflict-free life, but none of us is spared. As they say losers are always equipped with ‘Why-Me’ sentiment while winners are always armed with ‘Try-Me’ temperament. And that one choice of daring to be a winner and pushing your hardships to the back foot makes a real difference and transforms your life from simple to spectacular.

You just need to put your best foot forward in achieving the desired goals.
The life story of Sylvester Stallone is an exemplary inspiration to all those who dare to win. Since childhood his face was damaged, which also caused slight speech impairment. His passion to be an actor was so strong, that he would spend all his time looking for the right opportunity. Whenever he would audition, the directors and producers would reject him because he had a slightly crooked face and has slight speech impairment. Because of his pursuit to become an actor, he was always short on cash. His wife was constantly stressed because of the financial challenges they had to face. She lost her resolve, when Sylvester sold her jewelry one day. She decided to leave him. Sylvester then one day had to sell his beloved dog for $25 to survive. He was at his absolute low. And then he wrote a script based on the trials of a budding boxer. He took the script to a Producer. The producer liked it and negotiated a price $35,000 and taking him in the lead role. The movie was made and named Rocky. And the rest is history.

Finally I could sum up this ABCD philosophy of success into the following statement. You could say I am crazy – that’s fair enough – but hear me out,

“Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it. That’s the mark of true success.”

ABCD [Any Body Can succeeD]

ABCD
[Any Body Can succeeD]
Anybody can succeed, and no one needs to wait for luck to knock the door. Here's your ABCD philosophy to greatness!

A few days back, I chanced upon this impressive movie ‘ABCD’ (Any Body Can Dance). This movie really hit me somewhere deep inside. In particular, this movie focuses on a gang of aimless youngsters who are somehow blind to their own caliber and are unknown to their ultimate destination. And finally they got guided by a MasterMind (read: Master Dance Trainer in the movie, a role amazingly played by Parbhu Deva) and he made them realize their true potential and of course they were the winners of the grand title of some mega event because of their superlative performance. If you relate the same plot to our ‘as-usual’ life, you will get to see for yourself a lot much similarity. Let’s see how one can relate this ‘ABCD philosophy’ to achieve greatness in one’s life,

A = Attitude Matters
Iceberg Theory says that one tenth part of an iceberg is visible while the nine-tenths of an iceberg is out of sight below water. It remains hidden. So is the case with us. Most of the human beings just remain unknown to the tremendous amount of potential sleeping within them. Talking about the same bunch of carefree and happy-go-lucky young boys and girls as depicted in the movie, one can easily see the spark in them (as Prabhu Deva did) but ironically these very gifted teenagers were unsure of their own talent. That’s what depicts the tragedy of a ‘common man’. He leads his entire life utilizing just a very small part of his true potential. And finally approaches the end of his life remaining ‘common’ throughout being unsure, insecure and underachiever. Even if he tries to move forward, a few initial twists and turns seem to be enough to kill his spirit. It’s quite critical to know your actual worth. Believe me, this could be the real breakthrough of your life in the very first place. And sometimes a simple insight is all it takes.

"It’s quite critical to know your actual worth."

Here the clue is to have a positive outlook, a positive self esteem and a positive approach towards life. This attitude is enough to guide you on your way up to success. History of mankind is replete with examples of such great souls with the same ‘never-say-die’ attitude. Bill Gates didn’t seem like a shoe-in for success after dropping out of Harvard and starting a failed first business with Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen called ‘Traf-O-Data’. While this early idea didn’t work, Gates’ later work did, creating the global empire that is Microsoft. Soichiro Honda was actually turned down by Toyota Motor Corp. for a job as an engineer, leaving him jobless for quite some time. He started making scooters of his own. Spurred on by his neighbors, he finally started his own business, but had to go through several failures before his billion-dollar business really kicked off. Jack London, a well known American author wasn’t always such a success. While he would go on to publish popular novels like White Fang and The Call of The Wild, his first story received 600 rejection slips before finally being accepted.

B = Be Yourself
I believe, ‘Be Yourself’ could be the most misinterpreted or misunderstood phrase. As per my understanding, this has been a rule of thumb for the greatest achievers in the history of mankind. In nut shell, being yourself directly relates you to any job or a particular work which suits you best as per your interests, choices and likings. I hope you remember this dialogue from the same movie, “Jis Kaam Main Mann Nhi, Wo Theek Se Nhi Hota. Isliye Wo Hi Karna Chahiye, Jisme Man Lagta Ho…Hai Na ?!!” Dale Carnegie says the same when he talks about success, "Find yourself and be yourself; too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we aren’t. Remember there is no one else on earth like you. Life is all about being yourself. Everybody has his/ her own set of strengths and weaknesses, and it is only when you accept everything you are-and aren’t. Someone only you can be...Someone only you can understand...Someone that is unlike everyone else...Someone that doesn't copy others to look the same...Someone who is extremely unique...Because you are you...Be Original...No matter what happens, always Be Yourself-that you will truly succeed."

"Your work is to discover your work."

This world would be a better place if more people were doing what they love. Because we are happier when we discover our passion. Because life is more interesting when we open our hearts and minds. Because magic happens when we follow our dreams. Remember, the world needs you to do what you love. It will bring out the best in you. It's not selfish. It's not crazy. It's your life. To paraphrase Steve Jobs, “Your time is limited and your work is going to fill a large part of your life, so don't waste it living someone else's life… love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Even Gautama Buddha has emphasized on the same, “Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it. That’s the mark of true success.”

DREAM, DARE, DO !!!

DREAM, DARE, DO !!!
If you really wish to make a cut above the rest, safeguard and protect what you dream. Here is how to steel yourself to realize your most cherished dreams.

There are so many people who want to taste success as early as possible. Then there are a few who really desire to get into the best of their shapes instantly. There are also others who wish to get a quick name and fame. And when it comes to their efforts, this is where they fail dramatically. And their dreams seem castles in the air. But the question is if it’s really ‘dream work’ or there are some other ingredients also which make these ‘daydreams’ come true. I believe success is a cocktail of 3 Ds. These 3 Ds are Dreaming, Daring and Doing. Let’s talk about the making of this cocktail at length.

I Have A Dream:
No doubt, dreams are the blueprints of our goals. To paraphrase  A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Dream, Dream Dream. You have to dream before your dreams can come true. Dream is not that which you see while sleeping it is something that does not let you sleep. Dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result in action. "Each and every invention of our modern world has been a dream in the first place. And some ‘beautiful minds’ saw them in their world of imagination. I believe Edison, Graham Bell, Wright brothers and the people of the same league were great dreamers who really believed in the beauty of their dreams. They dared to follow their dreams and hold on tightly to their passions even in the face of tremendous odds. The outside world even alienated them, cornered their ideas, mocked and derided their dreams but our heroes never gave up. History is replete with the names of such believers. It’s true that each journey starts with one single step. And success means going confidently in the direction of your dreams. What if your dream has the same potential? That’s how you live your life you have imagined.

Wright Brothers and the people of the same league were great dreamers who really believed in the beauty of their dreams.
On the flip side, a lot many so called ‘Practical Thinkers' hate such dreamers and they even warn you not to get into this dream-business as if there is a stigma attached to it. They somehow don’t buy into your logic. They think that you are nuts. They talk about grappling with life being practical. And there is no room for dreams in their hard, cold world. Chances are their impressions could have some validity. But one needs to take stand before throwing away their most cherished dreams into a dustbin. The major cons of this ‘dead-serious’ philosophy are that we start doubting our own potential and stop making attempts to grow. No wonder that we remain small, we feel meek and We become shy of our future. We never witness the moments of our peak performance. And when we go through a rough patch, the simple twists and turns of life seem more than enough to unsettle us. No doubt, the signs are loud and clear. These are the sure-fire symptoms of a limp personality. If you really wish to make a cut above the rest, safeguard and protect what you dream.

Daring the Dream:
Agreed, your ‘darling-dream’ is the first point of contact between your ambition and your accomplishment. Then it comes down to face your challenges head on. And the biggest bottleneck you encounter in form of getting rid of all your inhibitions and hesitations in the pursuit of your happiness. Happiness of making your dream come true! And for this all you need to do is to adjust your train of thought, pull up your socks, roll up your sleeves and gather some courage to dare your dream. You might be battling your way up to put your best foot forward. With all confidence, I can genuinely tell you that the most beautiful dreams are sometimes the easiest give-aways. This holds true exclusively to those people who fail to accept the fact that they are quite capable to achieve many things despite difficult conditions and uncertainties. And they keep themselves close to their ‘pity party’. This itself narrows down the choice so much as to make it almost impossible. That’s all summing up of their entire ‘as-usual’ life and they stick to it. Thus most people live and die with their music still unplayed. They never dare to try. Nor do they try to dare. It is not because things are difficult that they do not dare, it is because they do not dare that they are difficult. In these circumstances, what is of utmost importance is the adequate amount of ‘dare’. And here, we usually fall short.
The most successful people who have walked on Planet Earth, have been
the ones who have always retained a ‘whatever it takes’ approach.
Such day-dreamers experience an emotional roller-coaster ride; they get a high, whenever engrossed with their dear dreams and interestingly they feel down for failing to collect enough dare to pursue their best interests. It is also a way of thinking and passion that comes only from a drive within.  Naysayers may still disagree but this act of courage is quite doable. The most successful people who have walked on Planet Earth, have been the ones who have always retained a ‘whatever it takes’ approach and never batted an eyelid through all the turmoils of life. They go farthest because they are generally the ones who are willing to dare. All the more, they cling on to their sky high confidence and cope with hurdles in their way in a far better way. Such are the folks who are never left with regret of a life half lived, when they near the end. In the words of Theodore Roosevelt, “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”

Just Do It !
Who doesn't want to brighten up his life? While some of us (read: gloomy souls) keep misconceptions and myths about ourselves close to our hearts, crib about persons, places or things, experience extreme agonizing moments of doubt, feel a void deep inside, remain small, end up with a nomadic life and find ourselves a complete misfit in a self-trapped world. On the other hand, there are a few of us (read: gutsy souls), who believe in immediate action and attention, watch out for the brighter side in everything and everyone, enjoy being driven with the fired up desires, get a huge boost in their confidence with every little achievement, try to push their limits, surmount all odds with a tinkle in the eyes and make ourselves the best fit into a beautiful world.

Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, and others make it happen.
So, overall I hope you get a sense of my belief that believing in your dreams is something which really makes a huge difference. Believe in the beauty of your dreams; throw away all crutches of lame excuses, move forward in the direction of your dreams and never look back.  That’s what achievers do and this is what you got to do. There could be lots of tough problems out there. But mind you, no road to success is devoid of challenges. If ‘daring your dream’ is to up your chances of success, ‘doing your dream’ is to make sure about it. Either you sit by the shore and wait for life to happen, or you dive into it and pull out the gem. Remember, life itself is a very solvable thing. And you just need to make it happen. It’s heartening and makes me feel good to quote Michael Jordan here when he says, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, and others make it happen.”And I strongly recommend you go by these words without a shred of doubt. If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.
