Life Lessons from Children

“A child can teach an adult a lot."
Life Lessons from Children
I was invited for a guest lecture, and I remember we had an amazing time. Here are 10 essential life lessons we can learn from children.

Paulo Coelho once said, “A child can teach an adult a lot."

Today, in one of my folders, I found this old picture that reminded me of the lovely time I had with these bright kids at Porter Middle School, MT, United States.

I was invited for a guest lecture, and I remember we had an amazing time.

Here are 10 essential life lessons we can learn from children,

(i) Be Yourself.

(ii) Stay Curious.

(iii) Keep Smiling.

(iv) Live in the Present Moment.

(v) Start Every Day on a Fresh Note.

(vi) Don’t Let Failure Pull You Down.

(vii) It’s Okay to Ask for Help When You Need It.

(viii) Don’t be Afraid to Try New Things.

(ix) We Have the Potential to Do Amazing Things.

(x) and most importantly, Have Fun.

Quick Tips on How to Motivate Your Student-Trainees

What's your general behavior and attitude when you teach/ train your students/ trainees?
Quick Tips on How to
Motivate Your Student-Trainees
What's your general behavior and attitude when you teach/ train your students/ trainees?

I have always believed in the power of motivation as getting your student-trainees motivated can make learning fun, and inspire them to reach their full potential.

Meet š‘šššš”šš š’šžšš”!
I was quite impressed with Radha's dedication and
her zeal to make a difference in her overall personality.
I vividly remember when Radha attended her first Training & Development session, she came across a bit under-confident. In due course of time, she not only became super-confident, but also started participating with more and more enthusiasm.

I was quite impressed with her dedication and her zeal to make a difference in her overall personality. From time to time, I kept receiving her success-stories; and her accomplishments always made me proud as her mentor.

I kept receiving her success-stories; and her accomplishments always made me proud as her mentor.
In a book titled 'šŒšØšš¢šÆšššš¢šØš§ ššš§š š‚šØš š§š¢šš¢šÆšž š‚šØš§šš«šØš„', Todd Braver implies that motivation affects how an individual pays attention to specific information and attempts to understand it, in place of doing rote learning.

Students are š¢š§šš«š¢š§š¬š¢šœššš„š„š² motivated if they love or enjoy what they are doing even if there is no reward or incentive for it. While students are šžš±šš«š¢š§š¬š¢šœššš„š„š² motivated if they do not enjoy what they do, they will still do so to obtain the rewards or tokens.

Motivation uplifts student’s enthusiasm about the activities presented to them. Once they get motivated to achieve something by doing the tasks, they will eventually exert their full šžšŸšŸšØš«š, šš¢š¦šž, ššš§š šžš§šžš«š š².

The Sticker-Seller

This young chap earned my immense respect for all he has been doing to make his mother happy.
The Sticker-Seller
I am grateful to have those stickers that would always remind me how blessed I am, and how much I learnt from a young chap that night.

Meet my friend, Jevan from Singapore!

I was searching for a restaurant for dinner and it was already 9 PM. As I was walking briskly towards the market side, I noticed one boy in orange t-shirt.

As I came closer to him, he very respectfully asked me to buy a pack of stickers from him. At first, I thought of ignoring him as my attention was more on something else than his stickers.

But then I quickly realized that there was this humble boy with earnest voice and very ordinary looks, looking at me with hope in his eyes; and all this sight of him caught my attention completely.

For a moment, I forgot the purpose of my visit to the market and got more interested in knowing him a little bit more.

I asked him if he studies. He politely replied in positive in fluent English. I further asked him if his parents are OK with his idea of selling stickers late night away from his home. He further replied in positive.

Now, my curiosity was a little heightened and I made a deal with him as I was interacting with him during his 'Business Hours'. In return, I promised him to buy his pack of stickers given he answers my queries (if he is OK with it).

He readily agreed. Now the interviewer in me made a quick mental list of questions and we started,

Me: Tell me something about your family.
He: Few years ago, my father divorced my mother. Since then, I have never seen him. I am the only son.

Me: How does your family (I mean your mother) manage?
He: She works as a maid and I also do part-time work in a restaurant after school hours.

Me: Don't you think you should study at this time rather selling stickers?
He: Yes Sir, you are right. But my school is closed these days due to vacation and I come here to sell stickers after my part time restaurant job. And I do manage my studies at home during the school hours as school is not open during that time.

Me: Don't you think your school friends might make fun of yours, if they ever come across you as a sticker-seller.
He: No Sir, I don't think so. I deliberately come this far from my place and also they might be sleeping by this time. If in case, they ever get to know this; it will actually help me in knowing them better as my friends.

Me: How?
He: (with a poise on his face) The way they would treat me after this.

Me: (quite impressed with his such thoughtful answer) OK. How many stickers do you have in order to sell? And from where did you get the money?
He: I have 100 packs of stickers that I bought from a shopkeeper. I bought them from my savings that I made during my part time job.

Me: Don't you think you took a big risk?
He: (with a smile on his face) Yes Sir. I did. But there is no gain without any risk.

Me: I am very much impressed by you. You are a great example of hard work, sincerity and dedication. I am sure you will make your parents proud of you one day.
He: Thank You, Sir.

Me: All right. One last question. What do you want to do in your life?
He: I want to make my mother happy. (took a long pause and looked sideways).

Me: OK friend. Can we have a selfie together? Would you mind if I request your contact detail.
He: Sure Sir (with a little smile and somewhat wet eyes)! I give you my email address.

Me: Great! Would love to be in touch with you.

Thank You, my Singaporean friend!

And then, I realized the market was going to be closed. I hugged him, handed him money after buying a bunch of stickers for my 3 year old son. Though this interaction with him was full of valuable insights for me personally, this young chap earned my immense respect for all he has been doing to make his mother happy.

Today, if you think your life is full of issues and difficulties; I would rather say to you to give a little pause and reflect over what you already have in life. Sometimes, we tend to forget our blessings and take things for granted.

I am grateful to have those stickers that would always remind me how blessed I am, and how much I learnt from a young chap that night.

Thank You, my Singaporean friend!

An Open Letter to My Karambhoomi 'Uttarakhand'

When I look back and observe, I realize my karambhoomi 'Uttarakhnad' has a major influence on my life journey.
An Open Letter to
My Karambhoomi 'Uttarakhand'
On 20th Uttarakhand Sthapna Diwas, here is a humble tribute to my karambhoomi Uttarakhnad that had a major influence on my life journey.

Dearest Uttarakhand,

Namaste from Hawaii, USA!

First of all, heartiest congratulations on 20th Uttarakhand Sthapna Diwas!!! When I look back and observe, I realize my karambhoomi 'Uttarakhnad' has a major influence on my life journey.

It was July 16, 2010 when I arrived with Rs. 3000 and a couple of dreams in my pocket. Since day one, I fell in love with your simplicity, your openness and such wonderful gifts bestowed upon you by mother nature.

I am glad you welcomed me with open arms and always made me feel a part of your lovely family. I never realized if I was ever alone or a stranger.
Being here, mountains inspired me to dream big, dense greenery inspired me to keep my hopes alive, and beautiful streams inspired me to be giving with all my heart.
Though it was next to impossible for me to repay for all your love and friendship; still, I just tried my level best to do my job with honesty and goodwill.

Being in the position of a teacher cum trainer, I understood how sensitive it was; hence, I tried to inspire as much as I could. I tried to motivate as much as I could. I tried to ignite a spark in young hearts as much as I could.

Honestly speaking, I did nothing special or extraordinary, I just shared the same flame of inspiration with my students, that I had received in abundance from you. Hope I did well and didn't let you down.

By the way, through all my thick and thin, you never stopped showing me love, hope and warmth. With your blessings, I built my home and had a gorgeous family in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Above all, I gathered so much affection and appreciation from my student-trainees that I had never imagined.

It's the very first time, this Hawaii International Cultural Festival
will get to see a proud Indian from devbhoomi Uttarakhand.
I know, I still have so much of your dues on me that I can hardly repay. Still, as a small tribute and a token of my love and respect to you, I am representing you and your glorious culture at the International Cultural Festival "Island Style Celebration" in Hawaii, USA.

And interestingly, it's the very first time, this Hawaii International Cultural Festival will get to see a proud Indian from devbhoomi Uttarakhand.

Please bless me :)

with love,
your son

Leadership At Its Best

This blog post is to share one simple yet most profound example of leadership.
Leadership At Its Best
Today, it was a very special day for us; when Mr. Tatsuya Tanaka, President (Fujitsu) himself came all the way from Tokyo to Hawaii to cheer for us.

Well, this blog post is neither to promote vegetarianism nor to make you feel hungry :D

This post is to share one simple yet most profound example of leadership.

Few months ago, we 15 professionals (from 8 different countries) got selected from the entire South & South East Asia as the most promised individuals in our respective fields.

We came far away from our families and our homelands to participate in this wonderful journey called GLIK (Global Leaders for Innovation & Knowledge).

Yes, this journey not only made us realize our true potential as Global Leaders, but also tested us on various occasions.

Over the lunch, President Tanaka appreciated our commitment and promised his support to us.
Today, it was a very special day for us; when Mr. Tatsuya Tanaka, President (Fujitsu) himself came all the way from Tokyo to Hawaii to cheer for us.

Despite his overly busy schedule, he spent half day with us; and also, over the lunch, he appreciated our commitment and promised his unconditional support to all of us.

This humble gesture from the topmost leader of Japan's no. 1 ICT organization just blew us away and won our hearts completely.

So, how are the leaders in your organization wining your hearts?

A Bank Without Security Guards

This Bank has gained much popularity as 'š‡šØš¬š©š¢šššš„š¢šš² šššš§š¤' with "Never Look Down a Customer!" approach.
A Bank Without Security Guards
During my journey of GLIK (Global Leaders for Innovation & Knowledge) program, I had an opportunity to visit a Bank in Japan with its seemingly 'strange' policies. On surface, It seemed to be working beyond logic and rationality; however, the more I got to know about its philosophy and culture, the better I understood its success formula.

Can you imagine a Bank,
● That has š§šØ š¬šžšœš®š«š¢šš² š š®ššš«šš¬.
